Reptile incubators can be expensive if bought from a shop. However, you do not need to spend great amounts of money in order to have a successful incubator for your corn snake eggs; you can easily and cheaply build one yourself.
Things you will need:
- Polystyrene box – Available from various pet and aquatic shops
- Heat mat
- Thermometer
- stat
- 2 poles cut to the width of your poly box (e.g thick garden canes)
- Sphagnum
- Plastic containers for the eggs – small enough to fit into the Poly box
Instructions:
- Insert your heat mat into the bottom of the poly box
- Cut holes in the side of the poly box parallel to one another about a third from the bottom. Insert your poles through these holes. (See picture A)
- Fill the plastic containers you have for the eggs with damp sphagnum and place these on top of the poles. Ensure you place your thermometer inside an egg box to measure the temperature. (See picture B)
- Insert the stat so that it lays next to the egg boxes so that you can regulate the temperature inside your incubator.
- You can cut a hole in the poly box lid and insert a piece of transparent plastic if you wish. This will enable you to monitor the eggs without opening the box. (See picture C)

This is just one way of constructing your own incubator. If you have any other ideas or questions, please feel free to voice them in the forum.
